The Hidden Dangers of your Excess Abdominal Fat…

Why does the majority of people in this day and age have excess abdominal fat? The first thing that most people think of is that their extra abdominal fat is just ugly and the fat is simply covering up their abdominal muscles. This extra layer of fat makes people self conscious of their bodies.

However, most people don’t realize that excess abdominal fat in particular, is not only ugly, but is also a dangerous risk factor to your health. Scientific research has clearly demonstrated that although it is unhealthy in general to have excess body fat throughout your body, it is also particularly dangerous to have excess abdominal fat.

There are two types of fat that you have in your abdominal area. The first type that covers up your abs from being visible is called subcutaneous fat and lies directly beneath the skin and on top of the abdominal muscles.

The second type of fat that you have in your abdominal area is called visceral fat, and that lies deeper in the abdomen beneath your muscle and surrounding your organs. Visceral fat also plays a role in giving certain men that “beer belly” appearance where their abdomen protrudes excessively but at the same time, also feels sort of hard if you push on it.

Stomach Fat

Both subcutaneous fat and visceral fat in the abdominal area are serious health risk factors, but science has shown that having excessive visceral fat is even more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. Both of them greatly increase the risk your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, various forms of cancer, and other degenerative diseases.

Part of the reason visceral fat is particularly dangerous is that it releases more inflammatory molecules into your body on a consistent basis.

If you care about the quality of your life and your loved ones, reducing your abdominal fat should be one of your TOP priorities! There’s just no way around it. Besides, a side-effect of finally getting rid of all of that excessive ugly abdominal fat is that your stomach will flatten out, and if you lose enough stomach fat, you will be able to visibly see those sexy six pack abs that everyone wants.

So what gets rid of extra abdominal fat? Is there actually a REAL solution beyond all of the gimmicks and hype that you see in ads and on commercials for “miracle” fat loss products?

The first thing you must understand is that there is absolutely NO quick fix solution. There are no pills or supplements of any sort that will help you lose your abdominal fat faster. Also, none of the gimmicky ab rockers, rollers, or ab belts will help get rid of abdominal fat either. You can’t spot reduce your stomach fat by using any of these worthless contraptions. It simply doesn’t work that way.

The ONLY solution to consistently lose your abdominal fat and keep it off for good is to combine a sound nutritious diet full of unprocessed natural foods with a properly designed strategic exercise program that stimulates the necessary hormonal and metabolic response within your body. Both your food intake as well as your training program are important if you are to get this right.

I’ve actually even seen a particular study that divided thousands of participants into a diet-only group and an exercise/diet group. While both groups in this study made good progress, the diet-only group lost significantly LESS abdominal fat than the diet & exercise combined group.

Are you always wondering what the best ab workouts are to get rid of that stubborn belly fat?  The common belief that ab workouts will help you to lose belly fat is one of the biggest misconceptions that fitness professionals deal with on a daily basis.  Almost everyone has varying degrees of excess body fat in the abdominal region, and the best way to burn off that extra stomach fat continues to elude most. 

Unfortunately, ab-specific workouts do NOT burn fat off of your belly. They only tone and strengthen the underlying abdominal muscles. What you should be focusing on is a full body strategic workout that will cause a much greater metabolic rate increase and fat-burning hormonal response from your training program as a whole.

In addition, just doing cardiovascular workouts will not necessarily create the greatest metabolic response or hormonal response either.  You need a much more rounded training program that focuses on training the entire body with resistance training and multi-joint exercises in a higher intensity fashion.

This type of high intensity full body training in combination of a healthy balanced diet full of nutrient density on a regular basis, is the real key secret to shedding the extra stomach fat that covers up the abs. This is a much better plan of attack than just trying to do ab workouts and hoping that just doing a bunch of ab exercises like crunches and leg raises are going to make your belly fat simply disappear.

The amazing thing is that the majority of the population still believes that in order to get rid of belly fat, you need to do ab workouts every day using hundreds of reps. I see people giving this type of erroneous advice every day on all of the fitness forums. Please do not waste your time with this type of advice!

Now before you say “how can an abs expert not recommend abdominal exercises”, realize that I do strongly believe that a certain amount of ab-specific exercises mixed into your routines can be very beneficial. Ab exercises will help you strengthen and tone the abdominal muscles and are useful for other purposes such as a healthy back and posture when done correctly. But the fact remains that ab exercises are not necessary for fat loss.

A much smarter full body resistance training routine and a clean healthy balanced diet are the most important factors. All foods we eat either help or hurt our bodies.  The effects of some foods can sometimes be devastating.  Some foods will cause us to form fat while others will burn fat.  Below is a list of foods that directly contribute to increasing body fat.

Foods high in saturated fats and trans fats:

  • Palm oil
  • Palm kernel oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Hydogenated oils
  • Anything deep-fried
  • Dairy products made from whole milk

Salmon

The very first food that you must have in your diet if you want to shed belly fat is salmon.  Salmon contains a high amount of protein, which helps to increase your metabolic rate so you burn more calories throughout the day.  It also contains omega fatty acids, which support a healthy metabolic rate as well.  By eating salmon, there is a guarantee you will shed fat.  For best results, eat Salmon between 2 and 3 times per week.

Oatmeal

This is by far one of the top fat burning foods. While many people think carbs should be banned from a fat loss diet, oatmeal is one carb that’s a must.  Eating some carbohydrates will help to support a healthy thyroid gland and keep certain fat burning hormones in the body maximized.  When you have some carbs in your diet you’ll find it’s a lot easier to maintain that diet, and you can push harder during your workouts as well.  Oatmeal is a good source of fiber and the whole grain oats aid in keeping the appetite at bay

Eggs

And yes, including the yolk.  Though high in fat and cholesterol, egg yolks are rich in biotin which assists the body in processing and transferring fats. They are also very rich in protein. In fact, the yolk has some of the highest amounts of protein compared to other foods.  Egg yolks are also one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet in terms of vitamins, minerals, and trace nutrients.   Egg yolks used to have a bad reputation of increasing your cholesterol.  They actually raise your GOOD cholesterol and help in balancing the proper ratios.  Be sure to include eggs in your diet plan if you want to start burning belly fat. 

Avacados

Like eggs, avacodos are considered a ”fatty food”.  It happens to be one of the best fat burning foods! When you include avocados in a dish, they make just about everything creamier and more delicious.  They are also power-packed with healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants, as well as vitamins and minerals.  The healthy fat in avocados helps to control appetite and contributes fat burning hormones your body needs.  Add avocado slices or guacamole to everything from eggs, salads, sandwiches, and burgers, and start burning body fat faster!

Peppers

This spice contains a certain ingredient known as capsaicin, which causes the metabolism to increase as well after eating it.  If you don’t like cayenne pepper, red chilli peppers are a good substitute because they also contain capsaicin.  By adding one or both of these  to your daily diet, you could increase your calorie burn..

Flaxseeds
